A 13 year search by Pine Rivers Area for permanent premises has finally come to fruition.
A former Scout den in Stanley Street, Strathpine is now the HMCCQ (Pine Rivers Area) clubhouse. It was officially opened on Sunday December 4 by Moreton Bay Regional Councillors, Mick Gillam and Deputy Mayor Mike Charlton; and it was named "Don's Shed" after the late Don Nicol, who for many years led the long-running hunt for a suitable clubhouse.
Since forming in 2002, Pine Rivers Area has held its meetings at Pine Rivers Rowing Club at Petrie, then at the Kallangur CWA Hall. Sunday rides leave from Old Petrie Town - yet despite several attempts to settle permanently at the historical village, nothing eventuated but frustration. It was thanks to the active support of Mick Gillam and Mike Charlton during the past year that a suitable clubhouse in the area was found.
More than 40 bikes were lined up outside the clubhouse before the official opening - and after a ride through the back roads of Samford Valley, club members enjoyed lunch and being part of the official proceedings. Special guests were Wilma Nicol and members of her family, who were delighted to see Don's dream of a clubhouse finally realised.
